Field Experience

Responsible Business Practices

Field Experience commits to responsible business practices.
Our core product is leadership training.
We demonstrate through our own practices in the choice of suppliers in our supply chain,
our consumption patterns, and multiply this through our clients.

Field Experience commits to support the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals.
We have not reached the pinnacle for any of them, but we have the drive
to continue along the journey in our attitude and to take positive action.

Field Experience advocates the UN SDGs as a community development guidance framework in its training of International Volunteer Leaders. About 200 leaders are trained annually, translating 100 teams of 20 international volunteers each, working in collaboration with communities, NGOs, education institutions or local governments throughout
ASEAN, China, India, and Nepal.
“Never doubt that a small group of committed people
can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Margaret Mead, anthropologist

Buy Local, Support Local,
Small is Good

Picture
Whenever given the opportunity to, Field Experience will buy from local merchants, small businesses and choose locally made products.

We will also chose to buy from Special Enterprises. We will not do it out of pity nor with a patron-client attitude but with respect and expectations of quality. That expectation, we believe, will encourage dignity and push special enterprises to be competitive.

Travel Safety Advisory

Picture
Field Experience is a business focused on sustainable practices. We believe that high standards for quality and safety are in the best interest of all stakeholders

As such we are proud to be a part of an open source initiative to build and maintain such standards based on the joint experience of an expanding group of passionate and experienced practitioners of international adventure travel and learning, both from the public and private sectors.

We take this opportunity to pledge:

1) To do our best to adhere to the Open Source, community expert-driven standards published here,
2) To help to upkeep and further improve the standards, by reporting to the authors whenever we believe we have identified an area in which the standards can be improved.

Supporting Neighbourhood Community Project

Field Experience has chosen to commit to support Field Experience has chosen our neighbour's project PROJECT SPRING-WINTER (PSW) financially since 2016 until the completion of building as it aligns with our purpose and values.

St. John’s - St. Margaret's Church (SJSM) has been serving the Dover community for many decades through elder resident visits, Before and After School Care Centre and regular neighbourhood engagement in festivities.

SJSM has almost completed building an integrated multi‐generation facility at 30 Dover Avenue. PSW comprises two major components – Spring, a childcare facility and services; and Winter, a nursing home facility and eldercare services. Dover is a community that has elderly in the old housing and young families in the new housing.

Risk Assessment Management

Field Experience commits to the stakeholders that Risk Management Management Systems will be exercised in all the activities we lead and undertake.

We will seek purposeful and meaningful programming first, followed by a rigorous management of risk in order to enable meaningful threshold-crossing experiences for our clients.

Environmental Sustainability

Picture
Field Experience is a Call to Action signatory of Business for Nature.

What this means is we have signed to agree and support that to secure a healthy, resilient and equitable world, we need to fight climate change AND biodiversity loss together:
•There is no pathway to 1.5°C without addressing nature loss and land degradation.
•A fifth of the world’s 2000 largest companies have already committed to net-zero targets on green house gas (GHG) emissions. Businesses must also make commitments on nature.

Along with the above, Field Experience is committed to uphold sustainable environmentally friendly practices. We do it through our choice of suppliers, supplies, consumption and waste management practices. We also commit to educate our clients who are multipliers not only in Singapore but also have influence as they volunteer internationally.

Apart from the standard actions such as using recycled and FSC paper, other actions we think inspire and teach others to consider their own actions are:
  • BYO mugs and cutlery during our training sessions.

  • Returning suppliers disposable cutlery (even if they are made of biodegradable material (waste and consumption control). Since the first year or operation, FEPL has returned/refused 2432*  individual sets of disposable cutlery (as of Oct 2020).

  • In the choice of dishes during meals and catering, we seek to work and influence our suppliers by requesting for food grown in and near Singapore to also reduce our indirect consumption carbon footprint.

  • Field Experience staff and associates practice low carbon footprint in transportation (bicycle, public transport, motorcycle, instead of driving cars wherever possible). We have a company bicycle and encourage local or mixed commuting with it.

We have noted that these above are defensive measures. Apart for supporting leadership of teams advocating on nature preservation, we will be committing to support the mangrove growth in Singapore's coastline
